Grab Bar Install FAQs
Q. Where can I buy grab bars to have you install?
A. There are many local businesses that have grab bars in stock. Some include: Lowes, Home Depot, Menards and most medical equipment companies. Another option is looking at online retailers such as: www.amazon.com, www.MrGrabbar.com, www.build.com, Grab-Bar.com and www.GrabbarSpecialists.com.
Q. How do I know what grab bar to buy?
A. Standard length of bars (in inches) are: 12, 16, 18, 24, 30, 32, 36, 42 and 48. Your proper length is based on how and where it will be used. Most homes have studs spaced 16 inches apart. So the best lengths for mounting grab bars into studs are 16 and 32 inches. All ADA grab bars are designed to support at least 250 pounds.
Q. Does my grab bar installation require mounting into studs?
A. This may come as a surprise, but your grab bar does NOT have to be installed in a stud. In fact, many times there isn’t a stud at one or more ends of where you need the grab bar to be mounted. When this occurs, there are several choices of mounting aids we use to make sure your grab bar is installed safely and securely, even if a stud is not available. We do everything we can to install your grab bar where you need it, not just where the studs are.
Q. Can my grab bar be installed in a tile shower?
A. Yes. Many times we are able to locate your studs and mount your grab bar into the studs. However, if we are unable to mount into studs, there are several choices of mounting aids we can use to make sure your grab bar is installed safely and securely, even if a stud is not available.
Q. Can my grab bar be installed in a shower with a fiberglass surround?
A. Yes. Press on the flat part of your fiberglass surround. If the wall moves your installation will require special mounting aids to ensure your grab bar is installed securely.
Q. How quickly can I expect my grab bar to be installed by The Best Home Guys?
A. We can typically install your grab bars within 3-5 business days of calling the Best Home Guys.
